“Talking to you was like watching a romantic-comedy movie.”

Believe it or not, somebody actually told me that. I almost wanted to jump the guy who said it and like make-out with him or something until I was reminded that the leading ladies in such movies are not whores. So I composed my self.

Just in case you don’t know yet, I’m a sucker for romantic-comedy flicks. I mean, deep, thought-provoking films with epic cinematography are the shizniz and all but sappy love stories remind me that behind this whole “I’m-a-bitch-get-off-my-face-or-i-keel-you” image, I’m just a girl after all.

Hence, I give you a list of my favorite quotes from some of my fave movies because I’m a pathetic loser like that. Also, please get ready with a barf bag.

“If you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just… passes you by.” – My Best Friend’s Wedding

This is one of my all-time favorites! I have seen this movie about 10 times already and cried every single time. When I was younger, I thought this quote meant that you shouldn’t be afraid to tell that person that you love him/her because 1) you never know if he/she feels the same way for you or 2) it might be too late already. Recently, however, I realized this meant that when you feel that thing in your heart, don’t keep it in. Eventually it might wear off and it won’t mean the same anymore even if you still say it.

Throwing up yet? No? Read on…

“That thing, that moment, when you kiss someone and everything around becomes hazy and the only thing in focus is you and this person and you realize that that person is the only person that you’re supposed to kiss for the rest of your life, and for one moment you get this amazing gift and you want to laugh and you want to cry because you feel so lucky that you found it and so scared that that it will go away all at the same time.” – Never Been Kissed

I don’t really believe that the person you gave your first kiss to is the one you should marry but hell, am I glad that I saved my mine for someone special. We were never together but seriously, it could be a scene in a movie. :D

“His love for her lasted that long because it was never returned.” – Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World

If you’re not into Asian films, I bet you’ve never even heard of Sekai no Chushin de Ai wo Sakebu. It’s more an “OMG-I-SLASH-MY-WRIST-NOW-KTHNXBI” melodrama than a romantic comedy but hell, that line was just… holy fuck. As you probably have noticed, I have a thing for unrequited love stories.

“I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” - Notting Hill

If I told you that I actually said this to someone, would you believe me? Well, you should. Because I did. And I’m not saying it’s the best movie or the best line in the world (in fact, it’s rather gay) but at that time, I felt like I was Julia Roberts, which is so much with the fail. Also, I’m not the one with a boyfriend right now so I think you know that this line doesn’t work all the time. LULZ.

“The 10 Rules: 1. Don’t ask her to be feminine 2. Don’t let her drink over three glasses 3. Drink coffee instead of Coke/Juice 4. If she hits you, act like it hurts. If it hurts, act like it doesn’t 5. On your 100th day together, give her a rose during her class 6. Make sure you learn fencing and squash 7. Be prepared to go to prison sometimes 8. If she says she’ll kill you, don’t take it lightly 9. If her feet hurt, exchange shoes with her 10. She likes to write. Encourage her.” – My Sassy Girl

IMHO, this is one of the greatest films ever written, not because I can personally relate to the main character but because it was simple yet complex. And if you didn’t want to tear up your screen and jump inside when Gyun-Woo said those lines up there, then there must be something wrong with you. I still believe that one of these days, when I get drunk and shit, somebody would give me a piggyback ride all the way to Fairview.

And last but not the least, the lines that made me bawl my eyes out on the first 3 minutes of a movie.

“I’ve found almost everything ever written about love to be true. Shakespeare said “Journeys end in lovers meeting.” What an extraordinary thought. Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had. I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives. It was Shakespeare who also said “love is blind”. Now that is something I know to be true. For some quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost. But then of course love can also be found, even if just for the night. And then, there’s another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. Its called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert. Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone? We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded. The handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space! Yes, you are looking at one such individual. And I have willingly loved that man for over three miserable years! The absolute worst years of my life! The worst Christmas’, the worst Birthday’s, New Years Eve’s brought in by tears and valium. These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. All because I’ve been cursed by being in love with a man who does not and will not love me back. Oh god, just the sight of him! Heart pounding! Throat thickening! Absolutely can’t swallow! All the usual symptoms.” – The Holiday

BEST. INTRO. EVAAARRRR. I mean, I couldn’t have said it better. And to think I watched that movie while I was going through the exact same thing. Except mine was 5 years, not 3. And they weren’t exactly the worst years of my life. Ahahahaha.

Yes, I heard you. I’m hopeless. I should watch more serial killer movies, don’t you think?

    @ Shokizuki
Sekachu was more Korean with its melodrama and all so it wasn’t my most favorite. Although I have to say I liked the TV version better because WTF SRSLY. takayama ftw.

    @ Rich
Hey! Welcome to my blog… lulz. Thank you! And you don’t have to be gay to love romantic-comedies, yanno. Just a very sensitive boy-next-door, I suppose. Which is nice. And cute. :P Hope to see you around. ;)

  9. Rich Muhlach Says:

Hey, thanks for the welcome (haha that sounded fresh!). Don’t mean to clog your blog (haha that rhymes) but here’s a quote from Massimo (that Italian dude in JLo’s The Wedding Planner) which I found cute too.

“I know I never done the right thing, say the right thing. I know I act like a fool. I know say we’d be buddy-buddy friends, but that would not be true to my heart so I’ll ask this one question, and if you answer “no” I’ll leave you alone once and for all. Be my wife, Mary Fiore. If you answer yes I’ll take care of you, be true to you, and like this house I built for your dolls, I’ll make sure you have a strong roof over your head. If you answer yes than no one will love you as much as I love you. If you answer yes than you will make me the happiest man on earth.”

Note: the impact and ‘kilig’ factor is better if you watch the scene rather than reading it from a transcript.

    Keep the blogs comin’ :)

I’m going to have to call you on My Sassy Girl. I mean, aside from the sass, the second half of the movie was pretty much a big WTF in Hanggul to me.

What was up with that old dude by the tree with his hippie love advice?

  11. shokizuki Says:

Huh? Me movie non? I’ve only watched the series’ ending XDDD

Happy birthday to Shige~! and belated to me and Massu XD

Hello there. I dont know how i reached your blog but im glad I did :) Im supposed to be doing something important but i found myself surfing aimlessly.. that happens sometimes when im deep in thought :p

Reading this post is providential because i just realized that i was preoccupied with thoughts of my wife. For weeks now, i’ve been missing her. No, we’re not apart from each other. For the past seven happy years and 4 kids, we’re always together like peanut butter & jelly. In fact, this beautiful woman is sleeping beside me right now.

It’s just that we’ve been too busy with our concerns the past few weeks that i feel like im not giving her the attention she deserves. I need to say or do something sweet.. And there it is. The line from ‘Never been Kissed’ – Just perfect. Thank you!

Oh Btw, i think i can relate to you. I’ve been to where you are right now and you need not worry and hurry :)

Now if you’ll excuse me, i have to memorize that line.. wake her up and what will follow as they say, will be…

    Rated R. ;P

Awwww. OMG THAT’S SOOOOO SWEET!! I’m glad you chanced upon my blog, too. See you around and goodluck with the wife!

  14. OneTamad Says:

The first part was teh funny, for sure, but throughout the second half, I felt that I was having a flashback from when I did drugs as a pastime. Oh, wait, I was doing drugs at the time…

  15. Mistervader Says:

I just realized that I’d be nuts enough to do the Sassy Girl thing…
