GORDON-BAYANI ON MAY 10

Written by Kring Elenzano on May 7th, 2010. Posted in Personal, Philippines, Pop Culture

I am not here to campaign for my bets. I am not even writing this to tell you why your respective candidates suck and why mine should win. Isn’t this post a little to late for that? I really am just here to proclaim to the whole internet that I am supporting the Gordon-Bayani tandem and I will proudly cast my votes for them this May 10.

I didn’t just decide on this overnight. A couple of months ago, we actually did an episode on Talking Heads about the presidentiables, where we compared them side by side and objectively looked at their characters and credentials. The following months were all about getting as much info on them as I can and needless to say, Mr. Gordon won my heart- and mind (sorry, not an emotional voter here).

MY GUYS in a lol-worthy campaign material

Gordon has a strong background in public service. I am not even going to enumerate his achievements because there’s Google for that. More than the bills and the laws, you actually have seen what he’s done. I don’t care if you’ve authored/passed 163749592 laws, if I don’t see the results, it’s nothing. And that’s what I like about Bayani, too. Call him a jackass, a crass motherfucker, an opportunistic businessman oh, like Villar, you mean? but seriously, that man had made things happen. Tangible results, I should say. And yes, those pink urinals included.

Of course, I also liked Dick Gordon’s platform. I liked Gibo’s, too, don’t get me wrong (he’s my 2nd choice, in fact) but I guess it’s just a matter of preference… Gordon’s key points are education and health and not too much on national defense. I’m not saying let’s not give importance to the armed forces but if kids are empowered by education and are not malnourished, why would they rebel against their own country? Or something… (and demmet 40k/month for public school teachers?! bjxkabkdbekf Now we’re talking! I can teach in Kaligayahan Elementary school kthnxbi.)

Character-wise, I’d like to believe that these two have what it takes. They could’ve gone the trapo route but at the end of the day, they do have a vision. A goddamn vision, which is the most basic requirement for a leader. Sure, they don’t have the best personalities in the world, but even Madonna was a bitch. Hell, go to any huge corporation and their CEO is most likely made of terror. What I’m trying to say is… we’re looking for a leader who can inspire AND act. If you want someone with a pleasing personality, go to your local fast food chain. Everyone’s smiling there.

This chart is like your weighing scale. It does not lie.

I have many reasons why I’m not voting for the other presidentiables. I’m not voting for Noynoy because quite honestly, I won’t want him to be my father. Or boyfriend *cringe*. I feel like he can’t even protect me, much more, my country. Plus, can anyone check if this guy still has vertebral column? And other than not being corrupt, what had he done and what has he to offer? I’m not voting for Manny because I can smell trapo from him from 500 meters away. I am mostly offended by his promise of eliminating poverty, to tug on the masa’s hearts. To quote Dick Gordon, “even Jesus wasn’t able to eradicate poverty!”. Plus, poverty isn’t a problem- it’s merely as symptom to a bigger problem, which is disunity. His campaign is fucking insulting to the poor, the middle class, and hell, even to Gretchen Baretto. I’m not voting for Gibo because when I weighed my options, Gordon just proved to be a better candidate for me. Maybe next time for Mr. Teodoro, when he gains more experience. And I’m not voting for Era- wait. If I meet anyone who’s actually gonna vote for Erap, I will pour water on his head and leave it under the sun so he can grow a brain.

Most of the people I know (if not all, except for a few) are voting for either Gordon or Gibo, which I don’t mind, really… But how come they’re really, really, really down in the surveys? You mean, they don’t ask and count the thinking middle class anymore? Sheesh.

As I said on my Facebook, I believe that even if Gordon and Bayani won’t be able to fully change the country, they can change the Filipino’s mindset, which for me, is more important. I will vote for them because I LOVE MY COUNTRY – not because they are “tunay na mahirap”, not because they’re sons of former presidents and certainly not because they’re womanizing drunkards.

Also, Gordon and Bayani have “bayag”. They’re probably made of steel, too.

Allow me to express my respect towards your opinion, and hope you’ll do the same towards mine. Here’s my two cents on this. Okay given that you have “compared them side by side and objectively looked at their characters and credentials,” I think you should’ve also looked at it at a different angle.

No worries though, as I won’t disclose my bet as it is not my nature to impose.

To be fair, though there have been a few or if not no laws at all that has been passed/co-authored by some, we also have to realize and acknowledge that they may have also voted for those laws, which enabled the implementation of what that the others have written and passed, and had it not for that single vote (as every vote counts) those laws may not have been implemented until now.

Yes your candidate may (appear) to have a strong background in public service. I strongly feel that he should not count his stints (on disaster recovery, outreach programs, etc.) as Red Cross Chairman among his accomplishments as he is merely doing his duties, and the reason he was able to do so was due to the financial support via donations to red cross and not entirely out of his own pocket. Any Red Cross Chairperson should be fulfilling his duties in the first place, it’s just so happens that he is the one here. Speaking of Red Cross donations, there was this one instance that I directly learnt of and was deeply bothered by it. Perhaps you could ask him directly about it, to remove the cloud of doubt once and for all. And apparently this was not the first incident. A couple of individuals/corporations can attest that they have experienced the same. [Willing to disclose full details, upon request - ofcourse after further verification that it is indeed you, not some anonymous mole trying to get my identity]

Regardless of the rampant black propaganda being done, I chose my candidates on the basis of being the “lesser evil.” Let’s admit none of their hands are clean. Perhaps the reason of this reply was that I can’t accept that someone (whose got credentials/brain like yours) or look at it this way allow me to atleast help you realize that you’ve been blindsided “somehow.” At the end of the day you’d still be the one to decide who you will vote for. I hope I got your ear.

Lastly, I just want to make sure after the elections that I’ve chosen someone whose got the least motive to steal from this country’s pocket. He may not accomplish a lot but atleast am sure he won’t live this country financially dried up

What if hindi nga corrupt ang presidente..yung mga nasa baba naman niya? kaya ang kailangan natin yung may kamay na bakal at may prinsipyo! Gordon! haha!

    @ Virtual Earner
I appreciate your time and effort in reading and commenting on my post. As I mentioned, this was never intended to sway other people into voting for my bets. And I don’t want to assume who you’re voting for because that would be unfair to you.

However, given everything that you said above, I am more certain that I AM VOTING FOR THEM. Not because Gordon authored his own laws doesn’t mean he didn;t vote for others’ authored laws/bills. Right? As for the Red Cross controversy, well, that wasn’t his only achievement anyway. I don’t want to defend him against his allegations because I wasn’t there and I don’t know everything in detail, hence, I cannot cast my stone against Villar on the C5 issue. Bottomline is, this is politics and people mudsling. As for Noynoy, well, what has he done exactly that would would have people claim that he corrupted? And what has he done to fight corruption so far?

I’d like to focus on the issues and platforms and conviction of a person. I chose my candidates on the basis of whether or not I can entrust my and my families lives to them. And for me, they are the lesser evil, too, if you’d like to put it that way. Whew. That was quite long. Anyhoo, I’ve said my piece already. Kudos to all the Filipinos on Monday! Good luck to us!

Love your last lines… and I was laughing about your Noy reasons.

To be an active member of the red cross is not a job. It is an advocacy. That is why they are called VOLUNTEERS. So look at the other candidates if they ever had been so strong in an advocacy, consistently, spanning almost 4 decades.

I brought to attention some issues on Red Cross directly to Senator Gordon. And he answered me directly. You might try asking him directly about those alleged donation issue. However, you must be ready with your facts… who donated, how much, and who/where/when received. Try it, You will get answers.

Kudos to this awesome blog. People should read this so that they would would wake uuup.

Hi! I am actually voting for Gibo, although Gordon is my second choice. We are voting for the same VP! yay! i am from Marikina, so I know the good what BF has done for my community and I know that he has POLITICAL WILL to accomplish this throughout the Philippines.

Among all the candidates, Gibo, Godron, and Bayani has the most logical and feasible platforms not to mention a clear understanding of the balance of powers in the government. It is not up to the President to persecute and legislate they are in the EXECUTIVE branch after all.

I do not pay much attention to the surveys because they only ask around 2000 respondents for their study. That is hardly a significant representation of the voting population. I just hope that others will not be swayed by surveys and propaganda. Let the facts talk for themselves. Monologues on TV shouldn’t be your only basis for your vote. Mas sayang ang boto mo kung magpapadala ka sa popularity, pang-uuto, at surveys. Sorry, ang haba po ng comment.

On a lighter note, I also cringed when I though of Mr. Aquino as my dad or worse, boyfriend. :-& sorry…

Headlines: “Philippines is the New Singapore”; “Philippine economy shoots Up”; “GORDON and BAYANI Transforms the Nation”; “Filipinos Volunteer for Productive Change” – ilan lang to sa mga balitang ating haharapin. It’s time for change. VOTE WISELY. And let’s work for a better Philippines Together.
