US Embassy Manila and Social Media

Last March 25 2011, we were invited by the US Embassy in the Philippines to a small gathering to celebrate “Internet Freedom”. Honestly, it was my first time in the US Embassy grounds since I haven’t applied for an American visa before and we were even at the balcony outside the ambassador’s office! Security was very tight, for obvious reasons but the view was… AMAZING.

I wonder if the ambassadors randomly chill at the Henry Mucci Balcony while sipping margarita and watching the sunset.

Also, I’ve always thought that diplomats (Americans or otherwise) are a bunch of uptight people who will give you the evil eye if you crack a joke within their hearing range but OMG I was so surprised and amused to find them very friendly and accommodating and some are even funny, too. Man, now I wanna be a diplomat! A superstar diplomat!!!

Anyway, the most important part of this gathering is his “announcement”:

In other words, US Embassy Manila is inviting you all to join, add and follow their different social networking accounts. Given that the US-Philippines relationship is pretty good and many people are interested to go there for vacation (in fact my parents will be hangin’ at the East coast next month LOL) or for work, it’s a great way to interact with the people from the embassy without having your crotch sniffed by security dogs or something. Honestly, I dunno. I haven’t been there before. LOL.

So what’s the relevance of this in my life? I think it’s a sign… that I’ll be going to the States soon somebody please invite me to an event. Or that I should get a American visa or something. When I do, I hope I can show this video and my photo to with the ambassador to the consul for immediate approval. Otherwise, I can also marry Jimmy Kim and then I won’t be needing a visa anymore. Hahaha!
