Sleeping in the MRT

Written by Kring Elenzano on April 9th, 2011. Posted in Humor and Crack, Philippines

I encountered something “unusual” and “interesting” in the MRT earlier AND I JUST HAD TO BLOG ABOUT IT (and you know I don’t normally just do that)! When I got inside the train at the Ayala station, I saw a man sitting by the circular space between the coaches. At first it seemed like he was just tired and sleepy, like most common passengers on their way home from a long day of work. But then came Shaw station and I realized that the man just decided to not give a fuck and was all-out sleeping. And for that, I have a message for him.

Dear Manong who was sleeping inside the MRT earlier,

I have nothing against you personally. I mean, I don’t even know your name and I can barely remember your face. But I do remember that you made the MRT your own sleeping quarters from Taft to Trinoma. LOL. Please don’t get me wrong, I do sleep inside public vehicles, too. A LOT. I’m not so sure if I drool or if I snore but I do know that I have rested my head on strangers’ shoulders countless of times. And in the many years that I’ve been taking the MRT, I have seen many people do weird, funny and WTF things that I’m actually immune to those already. Hell, I have even seen two butch lesbians who both look like Kim Jong Il make out.

But you… you were different.

The entire time, I was really bothered that something may be wrong with you. Like, you may be drunk or have suffered a heart attack (and passed out). But no, I zoned in and focused all my energy in observing you and realized that you were indeed just… sleeping. How many days were you awake, man?! And you must be hella tired!!! I mean, why didn’t you just take the bus where you could’ve had a proper seat (hopefully)? Why didn’t you just lean back and slept standing up, while holding onto the railing, like many of us do? What if a pregnant woman or an elderly person tripped on you?! AND OMG I thought your neck snapped when your head forcefully bobbed down!!! Seriously, mister, you’re not a chewing gum! Even kids get spanked when they sit on the floor like that (naka-handusay), much more in public!!!

But anyway, I’m not here to judge you or make fun of you. As I said, I don’t even know who you are. But I really hope I don’t see anything like this in the MRT in the future because it’s quite disturbing and I am genuinely bothered. How you’d get home safe in that state, I would never know but I hope the maintenance person at the North Avenue station was nice enough to wake you up from your VERY DEEP SLUMBER or else it would make for a very funny headline tomorrow.

Concerned,

Kring
