Tattoo SuperStick: Your Own Mobile WiFi Router

Written by Kring Elenzano on May 4th, 2011. Posted in Advertorial, Gadgets and Tech

I remember the time when fangirling was still super difficult. Youtube was not in existence yet and we would download 10 mb videos at 56K speed for an hour or more (from forums). The alien-like noise of the modem while it’s connecting was a common sound and heck, we even shared files by burning them onto blank VCDs because USB flash disks weren’t available until years later.

YES I AM THAT OLD.

Of course, in the last few years, faster internet has become available to us and trust me, you are lucky bitches because you can now fangirl on-the-go. Before, we had to wait ’til we got home from school to read those fanfics! Did I mention there was no youtube and only Arirang and NHK were available on cable? Fuuuuu. How the hell did we manage?

Today, there are so many options available for all of us to be connected to the internet. There’s of course broadband for your home, 3G on your phone, dongle (I really can’t help but LOL when I hear that ‘coz it’s like dong + tingle), and many others. I may not be a techie but I’m a consumer and I appreciate that the providers are trying to outdo one another in giving us the best and fastest service. To me, it all boils down to what you want and what are your specific needs. I’m just using fangirling as an example because I learned my away around the net ‘coz of F4 and Jpop/Kpop teehee.

When my friend over at Globe asked me to try SuperStick, I chuckled like a green-minded school girl. And then I became more mature and said, sure! Lemme try summa that Tattoo SuperStick!

Tattoo-SuperStick

Tattoo SuperStick. It does not look like this when you buy it for the first time.

As a regular person, I knew I had to use the product first for a looonnngggg time before I write about it here, otherwise I’d sound dumb (wait, I think I do already). So the unit has been with me since February and as you can see on the photo above, it has been overused and pillaged that the print had smudged already.

I have tried dongles (LOOOLLL) before and this product pretty much does the same thing, except I can share my internet with 4 other people/devices. Trust me, it’s quite fun to see people’s surprised faces when they realize your name is on the list of  ‘available WiFi network’ on their gadgets when there’s no WiFI in the area!!! Happens to me a lot.

So I’d say Tattoo Superstick is great for a couple of things (based on my experience):

1. Sharing internet connection with your loved ones.

My lame excuse to include our photos in this entry. But hey! I was holding my McBebe!

Jimmy has an iPad (plus a Macbook and a VAIO) and I got a Macbook Pro and when we’re out, we don’t need to use individual dongles (LOOOLLL).

2. No need to get a data plan for your phone.

Not my phone kthnxbi.

I got a cool smartphone, which I mostly use for photos and videos but not for internet-ing because it’s not on data plan. I can use SuperStick when I need to urgently access something (because I’m not a very mobile internet person anyway).

3. Some spots have a better signal with this device.

This is literally where Jimmy Kim works.

In Jimmy’s place of work in the boondocks, only Globe has signal for some crazy reason and it was actually the main objective why I also wanted to try this product.

4. Pwning people’s faces with your very own mobile WiFi router.

Be ready to get this kind of reaction. A lot.

No cables, no USB’s. Just #winning and #tigerblood.

If you’re gonna ask me about the signal, well, it really depends where you are. In some places it may be just a little or none at all, while in others, it’s the only thing working. How fast? Fast enough for me to blog anywhere and stalk people do my research online, but maybe not that fast to upload a video in 5 minutes. The features and specs? Well I’m not quite sure about the other technical shit but it’s up to 3MBPS apparently, BATTERY LIFE is about 4 hours, WIFI RANGE is around 10 meters and it has a 32 GB MICRO SD CARD (what’s that for anyway?).

Since it’s post-paid for Php1,299/month, you get free 200 texts to Globe and TM but in case you want it pre-paid, they also have MyFi. No, that’s not a Chinese ointment or a milkshake brand. ㄱ___ㄱ BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!!! I just got word that if you apply for a SuperStick plan starting Friday, May 6 2011, there’s a “Special Offer” for you!

I’m not comparing it to other services or products (because that would be totally ignorant of me) but if you think Tattoo Superstick suits your needs, why don’t you check it out for yourself? Thanks, Globe for letting me try it! I’m sure when the boyfriend goes back to live in the boondocks again for 6 weeks, my unit will be his!
