My First Indie Short Film
According to their Facebook page, CineMangarap: Indie long, Short ito! “is a home. It’s a venue. It’s an expression of artistic freedom. It’s a movement. It seeks friendship. It bridges gaps. It gives chances.” In layman’s definition, it’s actually an exhibition of 13 short films by young and passionate Filipino filmmakers. Why the heck am I blogging about this anyway? Because my first every “indie” short film will be showcased there, that’s why! And it’s emo. Literally. Yup, the film’s title is EMO.
DO YOU WANT TO WIN EXCLUSIVE INVITES FOR THE GALA NIGHT
(and rub elbows with the actors)? Read until the end!
You probably have already seen me in shitloads of online videos and some of them are even short film-like. However, I think it’s the first time that I got nvolved in production where I had no creative input at all – I was only an actress and it was… refreshing! My very good friend, Ivan Payawal, an alum of the Marilou Diaz-Abaya Film Institute was the brains and heart behind this. Just look at that poster. Written, produced and directed by. Bitch.
When Ivan first asked me to be part of it and sent me the script, I had a few apprehensions. After clearing those with him, I decided to jump on board because what the heck, how can I say no to my BFF, right (and the script was funny)? Plus, I’d like to be able to work with people whom I have never worked with before. It was a great experience!
That’s me with direk Ivan and DOP Paul. Serious business is serious.
K.A. Antonio from the band AJKA and GMA7′s Gian Magdangal hangin’ out at the set!
So, what exactly is Emo all about?
Mikaela is a director (played by none other than who else) who is tasked to make a documentary about the “emo subculture”. Unbeknownst to her boss, Mikaela LOATHES emos but she is forced to finish the episode to salvage her career. Will she be able to finish her docu while fighting her own demons? Hmmmm… WATCH IT TO FIND OUT!!! Here’s a teaser (and no, you won’t find me hidden there):
Emo will be shown at Vinyl at Vinyl at The Collective, Malugay St., Makati on the following dates:
December 2, 2011 – 7pm
December 3, 2011 – 11am & 3:30pm.
December 4, 2011 – 1pm & 5pm
The entrance is Php 150 inclusive of popcorn! December 3, 2011 8pm screening is by invites only and I’ll definitely be there! If you’d like to be part of the gala night, too (and hang out with the artistas from the different films), just leave a comment here and tell me why you’d like to watch it! I’d choose two people who’d win EXCLUSIVE invites! The stars of the other short films include Joem Bascon, Ina Feleo and Maricar Reyes, among many others.
If you’re a film blogger or part of the press who is interested to cover the event, please leave a comment here with your email add and the organizers will contact you. Click here to check out their poster!
Cast of emo: Jay Pangilinan, J.Lo, Gian Magdangal, K.A. Antonio, Sheena Ramos and Jay Barrameda
Please please pleeeeaaassseee support CineMangarap, guys, especially our film, Emo! To be honest with you, I have not seen the final edit yet and I probably would watch it for the first time on the gala night. But I trust Ivan and my co-actors, who were all very talented, brilliant and professional…
I hope this would be the start of my film career. Hahaha! I hope I get “discovered” by Mother Lily or something… CLAIMED!
