How to Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions

It’s the start of the year again and I’m sure many of you have made a list of your goals for 2012. I know I did and in fact, the list is quite long. The question now is how can you stick to your new year’s resolutions? It’s really not that hard. Just follow these steps:

1. Make your goals realistic.
It is okay to aim high and dream big but “marrying Adriana Lima” and “buying a shiny, red Porsche” (when you’re earning just above the minimum wage) are not very good examples of realistic goals. Make your goal not only simple but workable throughout the entire year.

2. Make your goals specific.
If you plan to lose weight, how many kilos exactly? If you wish to travel more, where do you want to go? Deciding on the specifics of your goals will make it easier for you to conquer them. For example, in the case of saving up money, you have to know by now the figures that you would want to have in your separate savings account by the end of the year. Php 100,000? Your imagination is the limit!

3. Plan out the steps on how you can achieve it.
It’s not about being obsessive-compulsive. Think of your self as an architect and your goal as a condo. Before you could see the final output, you have to know each step and all the factors involved in the construction. If say, you want to quit smoking, think of how many sticks you will cut down on per month for four months until you finally bid the cigarette farewell. Or you can go cold turkey. Yeah, you could do that too.
