How I Lost 6 Lbs and 2 Inches in Two Weeks

Written by Kring Elenzano on May 15th, 2012. Posted in Personal

If you’re following me on Facebook or Twitter, you probably know by now that for half a month, I did The Master Cleanse and basically did not have even a morsel solid food for about 12 days. Some people may say it’s crazy and I can’t blame them, I agree. However, it’s a good kind of crazy detox and I can say with conviction that it’s one of the biggest accomplishments that I’ve done in my life. Ever!

At the end of the “journey”, I lost 6 lbs and 2 inches off my waist. Though I wanted to shed off excess fats (I was starting to hate my body again and felt the need to do something), weight-loss, IMO is only the secondary benefit. It’s more for cleansing, really. Again, let me remind you that physiologically, you can survive that long without solid food but mentally, uggggh. It was hell. Let me share with you my experience, from my “TMC diary”.

EASE IN

Before you start with the Lemonade Diet, you have to prep your digestive system first and you have three days for that. As for what you should eat, kindly refer to the website that was linked above.

Day 0 – I had regular food but ate a lot of fruits and vegetables. If you noticed on the PULP Summer Slam video, I was eating apples during the concert. It was my pre-Ease In day.

Day 1 – Strictly fruits and vegetables. I had nilagang baka but only ate the vegetables and the soup. I’m not even sure if that’s allowed since you’re only supposed to eat “live food”. For dinner, I had a salad from Goolai. I felt refreshed. Not that much adjustment since I can go a long time without rice. Surprisingly, the salad made me full and I had more urge to drink more water than I normally did.

Day 2 – I made myself some pure carrot + orange juice and vegetable soup. I started to feel kind of weak. Perhaps it was psychological but I had doubts then if fluids alone could sustain the body. The vegetable soup saved my day (as it’s not purely liquid).

Day 3 – Only had fresh orange juice the whole day and I survived! I kept on licking on a tablespoon covered with Maple syrup though because I needed the “taste”. I felt weak at times but the maple syrup seem to have this “energy kick” that would bring me back to life.

LEMONADE DIET

My spicy lemonade~

So for 10 days, I only had lemonade and this is how I made my “food”.

1. Lemons – Buy 20 pcs. every 4 days. The cheapest that I found was in Hypermart, which are sold by kilos and not per piece or per pack. 20 pcs = around Php 220.
2. 1 liter Grade A Maple Syrup – I bought my first two (2) 350 ml bottles from Healthy Options for around Php 750 – 800 each. However, I learned about the one sold in S & R and so I bought that. Much cheaper. 1 liter = Php 1400. You will need 2 liters.
3. Organic Cayene Pepper – You can buy from the grocery but I got mine at Healthy Options.
4. Smooth Move Herbal Laxative – Bought from Healthy Options at around Php 250 – 300.

If we’ll sum everything up, you will more or less spend around Php 4,000 but it’s okay since you won’t need to buy any food for 10 days.

I also needed of course:

1. Electronic juicer
2. Coffee tumbler
3. Two (2) water bottles with measurements
4. Measuring tablespoon
5. Notepad as diary

Every morning I would juice 5 lemons (equivalent to 20 table spoons) and mix with it 20 table spoons of maple syrup. I would store this “concentrate” in my tumbler because it can’t be exposed to the sun so you have to make sure it’s dark and enclosed. For every 250 ml of water, I would put 4 table spoons of this concentrate and 1/10 tea spoon (or more) of cayenne. That would be equivalent to one (1) glass of lemonade and I get to up to 10 glasses a day. For every 250 ml of lemonade, you should also drink that much water.

Let me remind you that you are to do it for 10 freaking days. Yes. Are you ready yet?

Day 1 - Whole day shoot and I survived. I didn’t feel hungry though the cravings were very strong. I didn’t feel weak throughout the shoot but once the adrenaline wore off, I kinda felt weak and dizzy.

Day 2 – I went to the embassy with my mom. Drinking the concoction was surprisingly easier and there weren’t much cravings but I felt weak. Not sure if it was from the lack of sleep or the lack of calories.

Day 3 – I started drinking it with ice and it was much tastier although I felt the need to drink more frequently than previously. I was drinking A LOT, even water, so I felt rather bloated towards the end of the day. I felt “cleansed” though, especially after the laxative kicked in.

* Days 1-3 are the worst. Things will get better in time.

Day 4 – Could be the fact that I was with Jimmy but the urge to eat was much stronger today than in the previous days. I didn’t feel week though and only had 5 glasses up until the afternoon. Didn’t move much and was just in the house the whole day.

Day 5 – I didn’t feel weak like yesterday. The lemonade concentrate turned out different than normal because I didn’t have an electronic juicer so I manually juiced it. It tasted different, for some reason. I didn’t crave at all nor did I get hungry a lot. Didn’t consume as much today as yesterday.

Salt Water Flush

Salt Water Flush is optional but I was told that you should do it at least once. Many people hate it and I was thoroughly warned about the experience. Basically, you dissolve 2 tablespoons of sea salt (NOT IODIZED!!! The pure, rock salt kind) in 1 liter of water and drink it in one go, or within 5 minutes. Basically, within 30 seconds of finishing it, you’re gonna shit. Literally. So you have to be near the toilet. It’s crazy, really. And intense! I felt like even my sins were cleansed!!!! LOL.

Day 6 – I did the salt water flush today and it wasn’t as horrible as I imaged. However, prior to the flush, I already “released” twice so there weren’t a lot anymore. But the felt bloated the whole day because of all the water that I drank in the morning so I didn’t get hungry or thirsty much. Ah, we had a meeting at McDonald’s and I didn’t even want to touch their food. I felt weak towards the end of the afternoon, perhaps because I hadn’t drunk much then and needed more energy.

Day 7 – Accompanied mom to the embassy again. This day was pretty smooth except for the fact that I started drinking late so by nighttime, I had to rush-drink all the lemonade left. No cravings, no weakness. Today was good.

Day 8 - I had a whole day shoot again, which basically required a lot of energy. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel weak anymore and more importantly, even if they ate beside me, there were no cravings at all!

Day 9 – Started drinking the juice quite late, around 11 am. Had to go to the embassy again. I was constantly and continuously drinking the whole day but for some reason, I had some hunger pangs. Those were quenched right after I drank the juice though. I had become so used to it but I couldn’t wait to eat again. So far I had already lost 2 inches and 6 pounds.

Day 10 – Last day. I couldn’t believe I survived that looonnnggg!!!

EASE OUT

You’re not supposed to eat right away after the cleanse. Ease Out is just reversed of the Ease In. I made my orange juice again that day. However, I had the stupid idea of juicing my orange with the skin and it turned out soooo horrible and slimy, I just couldn’t drink it (and if I didn’t eat anything else, that would’ve been dangerous)! I had no choice since I was out of the house so I had soup for lunch and salad in the late afternoon. It’s wrong, really but who the fuck cares???

Bottomline:

Was I “happy” while doing the master cleanse? HELL NO!!! Was it easy? Easy as breathing fire while paragliding. Will I do it again? YES. Definitely. In a heartbeat. More than the detox and the weight loss, it was a really test of will power for me. How long can I endure things mentally and emotionally? How high is my EQ? Can I resist temptations? (I did not cheat even once) How strong are my convictions? And I had proven it. I had proven that I can conquer difficult situations and challenges if I just decide on it..

If I could quit smoking effortlessly (from 1 pack a day to nothing), be NBSB up until I was old enough to boss men around be a producer and not have solid food for 12 days, seriously, what can I not do? And I have since sworn off sodas and iced teas. As for the food, well, I’m more picky now. Starting my journey to wellness. Wish me luck!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, you can really lose A LOT with this cleanse. A friend has lost 12 lbs when he stopped on the 15th day. Another lost 15 lbs on the 10th day. It depends on your body, really. Though I only know of two people who have completed the 10-day lemonade diet since it’s really torture (Jimmy Kim quit on pre-Ease In LOL)! Make sure you do proper reesrch and consult your doctors first before you do this! Good luck!

ps: See you on Saturday, loves!
